The centenary of Hugh Leonard’s birth occurs in November 2026. Small and large events are planned for the year that’s in it. As part of the Dalkey Book Festival in June 2026 there is an exhibition of Leonard’s work for the printed page in Dalkey Library, with volumes from the collections of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Libraries and donations from the estate of Hugh Leonard.

And still in the Dalkey Book Festival, Leonard’s daughter Danielle Keyes Byrne will be conducting a walk around the Dalkey places of her father’s youth in the company of actor Michael Heavey reading excerpts from Leonard’s final, incomplete and unpublished memoir A Devil for Grandeur. The walk has limited places and, at the time of writing, is sold out. Danielle’s thanks go to Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre and the Dalkey Book Festival for helping this event to happen.
